Pause Long Enough to Appreciate the Good Things That Happened
How often do you think about everything that went wrong this week—but forget about everything that went right?
Our minds can naturally gravitate toward the stressful moments, unfinished tasks, awkward conversations, and things we’d rather have done differently. But a difficult week can still contain beautiful, meaningful, or surprisingly good moments.
Today, take a moment to notice them.
🌼 Today’s Daily Enhancement
Write down three things that went right this week.
They don’t have to be major accomplishments.
Maybe you finally finished something you’ve been putting off. Maybe you had a wonderful conversation with someone you love. Perhaps you made time for yourself, received some good news, enjoyed a peaceful morning, or simply handled a difficult situation better than you expected.
Write down three things.
They can be big or incredibly small.
The only requirement is that they made your week a little better.
Why This Tiny Habit Matters
It’s easy to measure a week by its problems.
You might remember the stressful meeting more clearly than the pleasant lunch afterward. You might focus on the task you didn’t finish instead of the five things you successfully completed.
Taking a few minutes to write down what went right gives those positive moments some attention too.
It doesn’t mean pretending that difficult things didn’t happen.
It simply reminds you that one difficult moment doesn’t define an entire week.
And when you regularly look for things that went well, you may become more aware of the small moments worth appreciating as they happen.
Make It Easy
Choose a quiet moment at the end of the week—perhaps Friday evening, Saturday morning, or Sunday before the new week begins.
Open your journal or notes app and write:
This week, three things that went right were…
Then finish the sentence three times.
Try to be specific.
Instead of “I had a good week,” write “I finally called the friend I’ve been missing.”
Instead of “I was productive,” write “I finished the project I’d been putting off.”
These details are what make your reflection meaningful.
And if your week was particularly difficult, don’t pressure yourself to find something huge.
Sometimes “I gave myself a quiet evening when I needed one” is more than enough.
🌼 Your Little Reminder
Don’t let the things that went wrong become the only things you remember. There is always value in pausing to notice the moments that went right, too.
